That’s what she said…
My favorite part of the session was…
“How comfortable Jen made me feel from the first email exchange we had. She was genuinely excited to work with me and I felt like she quickly understood what I wanted from the photo shoot. Jen is so good at directing, which is key to getting a good photo. She told me exactly what to do and how to pose and I didn’t have to think about it or feel awkward. I felt really good and I had fun while she photographed me. And I don’t like to be photographed normally!”
Her biggest fear…
“That I would feel completely nervous and self-conscious and look really stiff and not sexy in the photos.”

Yep. That’s right. I got to do an outdoor boudoir photo shoot in my yard today. It was actually my front yard, not my backyard. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to live on 10 beautiful, serene (and private) acres. My home is my idea of paradise. Golden rolling hills dipping down into a refreshing pond that I’ve spent many summer days in. I love being able to combine my paradise with my passion and create beautiful photos, right here at home. I didn’t even have to put shoes on for this shoot because I didn’t leave my house!

I looooove couple’s boudoir photography!
It’s a totally different ball game than a solo boudoir session. The focus is turned on to your lover instead of the camera or yourself. There’s no need for acting to create passion, it’s already there. And it’s real. And you just can’t beat that. It allows you to be seductive and playful with your partner in new ways, ways that you may have never experienced together. It’s a good reminder of the connection between the two of you.

It was a chilly December night and I stepped into Mono Loco, a popular music venue in Charlottesville, for Adar’s show. I hadn’t seen her before, so I didn’t know what I was in for. I was practicing doing things in public on my own to overcome my social anxiety, so I was nervous. Then this tiny, gorgeous creature walked onto the set and picks up the microphone. Her stage presence was so real, so honest and raw. As soon as she opened her mouth to sing nothing but a deep velvety smoke poured out and caressed my eardrums. I forgot I was nervous. Standing in the front of the crowd, I started to sway my hips to the beats. Gently at first, then as the rhythms grow so did the motions of my hips. I didn’t care if anyone else was dancing, I couldn’t help but dance to every single song they played. I was mesmerized and vowed at that moment to go to every possible Adar show that I could.
Fast forward a couple months later. I posted a model call blog post asking for a guinea pig to come try out this AMAZING hotel room in Richmond, Virginia with a to-die-for-tub surrounded by windows. Who responded? None other than Adar herself! To say the shoot was an inspiration would be an understatement. Being able to share my talent with a woman who has an incredible amount of talent herself was just awe-inspiring! We had a blast for her shoot!
I love this woman for being so unapologetically her.

Ever since I first laid eyes on the bamboo grove at our new property I knew I was in love. I was going to make incredibly art with that bamboo! The vertical lines, the way the light seeps into the grove, just so delicious! That was THREE whole months ago!!! I finally got around to photographing someone in there when Max (my wonderful husband who is also a photographer) had a model, Willa Prescott, over for a photo shoot. Willa was so amazing and was totally cool with me jumping in at the end of their shoot to do a couple of photos in the bamboo.
As a creative professional, it’s SO important to do things for myself every now and then that get my creative juices flowing. This shoot, even though it only lasted 7 minutes, inspired me beyond belief. I’m now formulating a new branch of Breathless Boudoir that allows every day women to become a work of art!
Oh Virginia, How I love thee!
Your beautiful winding roads and roadside views.
Your passion for covering the roadsides with flowers that bloom throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Your mountains, who call my name every. single. day.
The rivers that wind through you, and beckon for me to dip my feet inside to cool down on hot days.
Oh Virginia, My heart is yours.
You’ve allowed the woman I am to fly with wings kept behind me for so long.
This beautiful state of yours is perfect in so many ways.
But the most important, is that you feel like home.
Thanks for being such a welcoming home.
Now with that being said, here are a few photos from a wonderfully inspiring boudoir session I photographed recently. Nothing sings to my heart, like spending time with you beautiful women, one day at a time, and diving into the world that is your sensuality and beauty.

Act I – Sweet and Airy Bridal Boudoir
The sweet scent of her flower crown was as subtle as the sheer tulle of her grandmother’s veil, preserved from the 70’s.
Jenna contacted me because she wanted to have bridal boudoir photos done of herself at this time in her life to look back on later when she’s older. It just so happens that her session doubles as a wedding gift for her fiancé that’s going to blow his mind and make him fall in love with her all over again! I love that in her initial email she said the photos were for her first. While I’m all about giving boudoir photos as a gift to a lover, I’m just as much all about having this experience for yourself! Jenna planned to have her trial flower crown made by her florist Mia at Root Floral Design) so that it would be done for her boudoir session (this works if you’re having a trial bouquet made as well). I’m SO glad she had forethought to do so because I feel like it really pulled together her bridal look and brought out the bohemian-hippie aspect of her personality. She wore a cathedral length veil that her grandmother wore in the 70’s that had the most beautiful scalloped lace designs!
With each and every Charlottesville boudoir photo shoot I do, my heart grows a little bigger. I can’t get over how everything has been working out with our new move! I’ve only been here for three months now and it already feels more like home than I’ve ever felt. The mountains nearby, the amazing people, the shoots. MY SANCTUARY of a house! Seriously, you guys, I live in total bliss! I see deer almost every day in my yard! You guys have no idea how happy that makes me. I’m a bit of a nature nut, in case you can’t tell. 😉
Meet Kathi –
This shoot in particular pulled at my heart strings. I felt a pretty instant connection with Kathi. She walked in with short, spunky hair with purple bangs… I knew we were going to have a great time! She’s inspirational to me because she’s a 45 year old mother of three, and she’s still doing her own thing and being true to herself. This includes doing really awesome things like taking pole dance classes and doing boudoir photo shoots!
Your Biggest Fear…
I asked Kathi what her biggest fear was before the session, this is what she shared with me:
“I thought I would be nervous when it came time to take the pictures. I was extremely comfortable upon meeting Jen and did not experience any nerves. I felt very at ease from the moment we met. I like to talk and enjoyed chatting as my hair and make up were being done also. I had worried that the make up would be too much, but it looked very natural and is perfect in the pictures.
It’s interesting, I had breast tumors removed from both of my breasts when I was a young teenager. Back in those days, the doctors didn’t really care about the scars that were left behind. I used to be incredibly self conscious about my breasts and didn’t like for anyone to see them. I was especially conscious of the scars when a man would see them for the first time. The scars have lessened with time, but they are still there. Before going for my session, I had worried that they would show up in the pictures and had thought I would mention them. After I left and was driving home, I realized that I had not thought about them once while Jen was taking my pictures! Thirty years of embarrassment melted away in one day.
