That’s what she said…

What was your biggest fear prior to your session?

Fear is something I try to acknowledge and allow myself to feel. My fears prior to this photo shoot consisted of not being able to let go and be sexy on camera. I’ve only had one photography look my whole life-look straight at the camera and smile! I also feared that the photos would not be perfection. I’m a life long perfectionist and want everything I do to be just that way. Once the clothes came off and the photo shoot started, my fear of not feeling sexy vanished and I focused completely on Jen’s directions. I had to release the perfectionism and embrace the real me in that moment. Was I perfect? No but I was still stunning.

What was your favorite part?

It is cliche to say but it is empowering. To know that I am capable of oozing sexuality and showcasing excellent physical condition at my age is uplifting and motivating-hopefully not just to me, but to others as well. I also loved the creative aspect of the photo shoot and experimenting with the human form.

How would you describe your experience to your best friend?

I would say you just have to do this for yourself. Every woman and man should…the experience can not really be described. I would say though that the resulting photographs tell a
story and the process allows you to love and accept your body and spirit completely.

Would you do it again?

In a heartbeat. I want to explore outdoor scenic boudoir photography!

What she said…

What was your biggest fear before the session? Did your fear come true, and if not, what happened instead?

I was afraid of being exposed, uncomfortable, and imperfect but that fear did not come true. As soon as I walked in, I felt very comfortable with the decision to have the photo shoot and with being there. I loved having my hair and makeup done and loved how it looked! Jen made me very comfortable and I didn’t feel exposed at all. My fear of being imperfect went away after I saw the pictures and was amazed.

What was your favorite part of your Breathless Boudoir experience and why?

My favorite part of the experience was seeing the pictures. It was such a great experience to see myself in a completely different way!

How would your describe your experience to your best friend?

It was fantastic and completely worth it! I wanted to do this for myself and my boyfriend. Now that I’ve seen the pictures, I’m going to share them with him, but it’s really a gift for me!

AND THEN…. she came back for more!

That’s what she said…

My favorite part of the session was…

“How comfortable Jen made me feel from the first email exchange we had. She was genuinely excited to work with me and I felt like she quickly understood what I wanted from the photo shoot. Jen is so good at directing, which is key to getting a good photo. She told me exactly what to do and how to pose and I didn’t have to think about it or feel awkward. I felt really good and I had fun while she photographed me. And I don’t like to be photographed normally!”

Her biggest fear…

“That I would feel completely nervous and self-conscious and look really stiff and not sexy in the photos.”

“You seriously blew me away and I just left thinking like “Why didn’t I do this sooner?!?!” You are an amazing human being with a keen eye for tapping into a women’s inner sensuality and capturing it on film. More women should do this, for not only their significant others, but just for themselves. And they should definitely experience themselves in this light with you. You are a gem. I will definitely be throwing my friends your way for photo sessions. I can’t tell you enough how great of an experience that was. And you made me feel and look beautiful. Ahh! I can’t wait to stare at the photos again! Other than my wedding day, I’ve never seen myself look so beautiful in photos. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done to make sure I receive this in time. If you’re brand wasn’t already stellar in eyes, you’ve definitely set the bar even higher for any company I’ve ever worked with. I will definitely be writing all sorts of reviews for you once the cats out the bag and sending everyone I know to you. You never cease to amaze me with your talent, professionalism, and customer service!”

What was your biggest fear before the session?

Did your fear come true, and if not, what happened instead? My biggest fear was dropping my mask. And believe it or not, my fear did come true but I was liberated for it. When I was in my early 20s, I was more in tune with my sensuality and sexuality. But in today society, being so comfortable in one’s skin gets you labeled as a “slut” or “easy.” So as an adult, I’ve tucked that side of myself away and have become more conservative to become a “lady.” Because this session leaves it all to bare, you really can’t hide behind anything because all there is IS your skin. And it forced me to ask myself the hard question: “Why hadn’t I been comfortable in my own skin earlier?”

What was your favorite part of your Breathless Boudoir experience and why?

Jen! As an artist myself, it was fascinating to see her creative process. She’s extremely talented in giving the most mundane directions like “tilt your head, open your mouth wider” and it translates into the most sensual shot.

I’ve always been curious about what happens when the excitement from the boudoir photography experience fades.  Do people still look at their photos?  Are they still excited?  Is there a lasting effect form the photo shoot?  I got to have these questions answered recently by Maren.  Her session was almost a year ago.

Do you still look at your photos?

All the time!

Did your session change anything about the way you see yourself?  Was that a lasting effect?

Yes, it made me more comfortable with my body as a whole, because I now have photos of a side of me that typically won’t get photographed!

Did you noticed any changes between the two of you after your session?

Yes, he wouldn’t leave me alone! But in all seriousness yes, because i was more comfortable in my body, I was a lot more comfortable with my husband.

“For the most part I am fearless in all situations, however, this one struck fear in me as the former fat girl and the not your standard body type girl. Even with that, in the past years and with 100+ pound weight loss, I have learned to embrace my body’s unique attributes.”

“I wanted to do this initially for my fiancé, because he loves my body, but the more I thought about it, I wanted to do it for myself too. And in the end I am so glad that I did. The experience itself, was comfortable from beginning to end and the process was very easy. The results were amazing, and honestly made me feel like I was 25 again. Actually better than 25, because I’m much more secure in who I am now at 41.”

A lot of times when Max and I tell people what we do, the person we’re talking to remarks that they’re too curvy to do a boudoir session, using terms much harsher than “curvy” to describe themselves. “Oh, if I could lose xx more pounds I may consider that”.  It really hurts my heart to hear statements like these.  Every. Single. Woman. Deserves to feel beautiful.  It hurts to think that there are women out there, loads of them, who don’t feel beautiful because in their mind they weigh too much.  Because at some point in their lives, or at many points in their lives, they were reminded that society reserves the “beauty” title for only those thin enough to grace the cover of our magazines.  Well this is bullshit.

All of our clients are all brave to trust us to photograph them in the most vulnerable way possible, but our curvy clients are extra brave because not only are they allowing themselves to be vulnerable, but they’re also saying “EFF what society’s definition of beautiful is!  I’m beautiful too, damn it!”

“Before the session, my biggest fear was that I wouldn’t LOVE any of the pictures because of my weight. I’m always self-conscious and there is always something I don’t like about myself. I was SO wrong. There are no words to describe the way I feel about my pictures. Jen and Max know just what to do and just how to pose you to make you look flawless and make you feel incredibly sexy. When I saw those pictures for the first time, I was beyond impressed. I couldn’t believe that was me!” Continue reading →

Blanche came in to our studio to create a boudoir book as a gift for her fiancé on their wedding day.  We created art that she loves so much she ended up getting the album AND some wall art!  I can’t wait to see her images in print form!

What was your biggest fear before the session? Did your fear come true, and if not, what happened instead?
I was worried that the shoot would not be tastefully done. This fear did NOT come true. I felt comfortable having both the husband and wife team there! I was worried that because the session is for my fiancé and has sexual undertones that it may be
cheapened in a way. This was totally not the case. I felt confident and comfortable the whole time and felt really good about
myself. Continue reading →

But she wanted to be sexy, she wanted to do a sexy boudoir photography session.  She just didn’t think she had it in her to pose in sexy ways, or to make sexy faces.  For some reason I just love it when clients tell us this before the session starts.  I accept it as my personal challenge to prove they can be sexy. Every person has it in them to be sexy.  At a biological level we are all sexual beings, some just need a bit of guidance, and that’s what we’re here for.   Trust that we will carry you through the session and you will get exactly what you came for.  Whether that be sexy and passionate photos, or soft and beautiful photos.  I can’t stress enough not to worry about knowing how to pose or make facial expressions.  It is our job to guide you into seductive poses and direct you from head to toe!  We focus on working with everyday women, most of which have never been professionally photographed except for senior or wedding photos (and that’s a completely different ball game)!  We will tell you exactly how to pose, how to hold your hands, how to achieve the perfect facial expressions… all while making it look completely natural and effortless!  After the session almost all of our clients say they were nervous before we started, and the reoccurring theme to the cause of the nerves is almost always “I didn’t think I would know how to pose”.   And almost every single one of them said their nervousness melted away immediately after starting their session.  Here’s what was said about our most recent session:

“I was truly worried about feeling comfortable, being “sexy”, and posing in the nude.
Jen and Max made me feel comfortable from the second I walked into the door, to
when I left. They are both very professional, walked me through every pose, and
made it seem almost normal that I was posing in lingerie on a chair or bed,
as if it was an everyday thing.”

I would like to know how many women would love to do a boudoir session more than anything, but just feel like they wouldn’t do well and don’t have enough confidence to just bite the bullet and call me.  I’d be willing to bet that number is pretty high.  If you are one of those ladies that have been following our work for a while now and just haven’t called yet, I’m talking directly to you right now.  You have nothing to fear.  I promise you.  If you are afraid that you will not like what you see, I can promise you will fall in love with yourself in ways that you didn’t know were possible.  You will see yourself in a new light.  It’s not that we’re going to transform you completely into someone you’re not, you will still very much be you.  It’s just that you will see the best version of you, a fully comfortable in your skin and sensual you.

If you really want to do a boudoir session, but aren’t sure that it’s for you, do me a favor… call me.  Let me know what’s going on in your head, be straight forward and completely honest with how you feel.  Even if you don’t know what to say, just call and say, “Hey Jen, I want to do a boudoir session but I’m crazy nervous”.  There will be no regrets in making that call, but you may regret passing up the opportunity to do a session.

The following photos are from the lovely woman who said, “I don’t think I can do sexy.”  So you tell me, can she “do” sexy, or what?!
